Hop Against Homophobia and Transphobia

I'm taking part in the Hop Against Homophobia and Transphobia which runs from 17-27 May. The Hop has been created to raise awareness of homophobia and transphobia and to stand together as writers etc of GLBTQ against discrimination. The International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia is May 17th.

As a writer of M/M I do not want to feel as though I need to hide what I'm writing. Why should I? People love who they love and isn't that the important thing?

Last month New Zealand passed the marriage amendment bill, becoming the 13th country in the world to legalise same sex marriage. This is great news, and makes me proud to be a Kiwi.

Unfortunately as well as it being something to celebrate, it also brought the bigots out of the woodwork. I was not impressed, or, sadly, surprised, by the number of comments posted on pretty much every article about the bill posted on Stuff, an online news site, declaring their opposition to it. It wasn't just that they opposed the bill but the reasons they gave, some of which to my mind, made no sense at all. It's been a very emotional debate.

To quote Louisa Wall, the NZ politician who got the ball rolling on this bill: ""[Marriage] is a declaration of love and commitment. Law that prohibits people from enjoying that state are just wrong."

"I am very proud to be part of a community that has stood up to be counted. Nothing could make me more proud to be a New Zealander than passing this bill."

In celebration of this bill being passed, and as part of the hop, if you'd like to be in to win an ebook copy from my backlist, leave a comment in this post and your email so I can contact you.

Yeah for NZ. You'll always have psychos who come out of the woodwork. Ignore, ignore, ignore.

Congratulations!
There's always a negative to offset the positive. It won't really matter, because the law is there now. And opposition to gay marriage rarely makes sense. They're grasping at straws.

Thanks for taking part in this!

Re: Congratulations!
Exactly. The law is there now, and I don't get the opposition to it either.

Go, New Zealand!
I live in a state where people went into a frenzy because a biracial couple appeared on the cover of a free weekly newspaper. I hope marriage equality is federalized here in the U.S., so more conservative states, such as mine have to permit it, whether they like it or not. Ha! Can't wait!

YAY!
3 cheers for NZ! Unfortunately I live in a very backward state in the US so chances of that happening here are anorexicly slim. We can always hope for a miracle and the idiots in power will be struck by lightning and have an epiphany.
